Myofunctional Orthodontics

Introduction

Soft Tissue Dysfunction can cause poor facial growth, unstable orthodontics and TMJ Disorder.

The influence of myofunctional habits on cranio-facial development and orthodontic problems has regularly been reported in publications. More recent studies show that crowded teeth and jaw discrepancies are not always hereditary, but can be caused by the way a child swallows and breathes. Traditional orthodontic treatment rarely includes therapy for these Myofunctional problems.

Your Dentist or Orthodontist may be the first to recognize that your child has a problem developing. However, it is beneficial to observe your child’s dental development from the age of 3 years. In this way you can do something before it is too late.

Remember:

It is important to correct those bad habits at the earliest age.

  • Mouth breathing
  • Large overbite
  • Thumb sucking
  • Teeth crowding
  • Tongue thrusting
  • Crooked teeth
  • Overactive lips
  • Protruding teeth
  • Reverse swallow

Mouth breathers tend to develop long, unattractive faces, an underdeveloped jaw and dental crowding. Mouth breathing, thumb sucking and tongue thrusting can cause incorrect facial and dental development.

Now you can treat these problems easily and effectively using the TRAINER System for habit correction during mixed dentition, braces, permanent dentition and more.
